Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a complementary energy healing therapy that involves the transfer of universal life force energy from the practitioner’s hands to the client. Originating in Japan in the late 1800s, Reiki made its way to the US in the 1970s, offering a holistic approach to healing by promoting balance and relaxation.
As a Reiki practitioner, I don't create or give energy, but rather act as a conduit for the natural flow of energy, often referred to as "qi." Imagine sitting in a room and sensing the presence of someone you care about, even without seeing or hearing them—that’s qi, the life force energy. Emotions are simply energy in motion, and Reiki helps to calm and unblock stagnant or negative energy within the body, facilitating emotional and physical healing.
Does it actually work?
Opinions on Reiki’s efficacy can vary widely, with sources claiming it is both scientifically supported and pseudoscience, depending on what you read. What we do know from research is that safe, consensual touch is beneficial for both mental and physical health. Healing touch practices exist across various cultures and religions, and Reiki is one such form of this healing tradition. The best way to understand Reiki is to experience it yourself and see how it feels.
What happens during a Reiki session?
A typical Reiki session lasts about 60 minutes. During the session, you'll either sit in a chair or lie fully clothed on a table. I will gently place my hands on or just above specific areas of your body, such as the head, limbs, and torso, holding each position for approximately three minutes. You are welcome to relax in silence or communicate with me during the session—it’s entirely up to you.
