FAQs
1. How do I know if therapy is right for me? Therapy can be helpful for anyone experiencing challenges, whether you're dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or feeling stuck in your personal growth. It's also a great space for self-discovery, healing, and improving emotional well-being. If you're considering it, that’s often a sign it could be beneficial.
2. What happens during the first session? The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other. I'll ask questions about your history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. This intake process helps us create a plan tailored to your needs. It’s also your chance to see if you feel comfortable with me and if I’m the right fit for you.
3. How long does therapy last? Therapy is different for everyone. Some people see results within a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy, depending on their goals and challenges. We’ll work together to assess your progress and adjust the frequency and duration of sessions as needed.
4. What types of therapy do you offer? I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including:
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)
Art Therapy (SoulCollage®, mandalas, and music)
Mindfulness and integrated body techniques (Reiki, movement, yoga, breathwork)
Walking/talking therapy along the Cape Cod Canal
5. Is therapy confidential? Yes, therapy is completely confidential. Everything discussed in sessions stays private, with a few exceptions required by law, such as when there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. We’ll go over confidentiality in more detail during our first session.
6. How often do I need to come to therapy? Frequency of sessions depends on your needs and goals. Some people prefer weekly sessions, while others find bi-weekly or monthly sessions helpful. We’ll discuss what works best for you during our first meeting and can adjust over time.
7. What if I’m nervous about starting therapy? It’s completely normal to feel nervous before starting therapy. Reaching out for help is a big step, and I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where you can feel comfortable and supported. We’ll go at your pace, and you can ask any questions you have along the way.
8. Can I talk about anything in therapy? Absolutely! Therapy is a safe space where you can talk about anything on your mind. Whether it’s something you’ve been struggling with for a while, or something new, we’re here to explore whatever is important to you.
9. What if I feel like therapy isn’t helping? Therapy is a process, and it’s not uncommon to feel frustrated or stuck at times. If you feel like therapy isn’t helping, please bring it up. We can explore what’s not working and adjust the approach to better meet your needs. Open communication is key to ensuring therapy is effective.
10. How do I pay for therapy? I accept various insurances including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna/Evernorth, Aetna, Harvard Pilgrim, and United Behavioral Health. If you prefer to pay out of pocket, my rate is $150 per session. I can also provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
11. Do you offer telehealth sessions? Yes, I offer telehealth sessions through a secure client portal. You can access the session from a smartphone, computer, or tablet. Telehealth can be a convenient option if something comes up or if you’re unable to make it to the office. Just make sure you have privacy and a good internet connection.
12. What if I can’t afford therapy? If cost is a barrier, please reach out. I’m committed to making mental health care accessible and will work with you to find a solution that fits your budget.
13. Can I combine therapy with other healing modalities like Reiki or yoga? Yes! I often integrate holistic approaches like Reiki, yoga, and breathwork into therapy sessions to support your healing on multiple levels—mind, body, and spirit. These techniques can enhance the therapeutic process and help you feel more balanced.
14. What should I wear to therapy? Comfort is key! Wear whatever makes you feel relaxed. If you’re doing a walking/talking session or incorporating movement or yoga, you may want to wear something that allows you to move freely.
15. What can I expect from walking/talking therapy? Walking/talking therapy allows us to have sessions outdoors along the Cape Cod Canal. It can be a great way to process emotions while being physically active. We’ll walk at a comfortable pace and talk through whatever is on your mind. It’s a good option if you find that being in nature helps you feel more at ease.
16. Can I bring up spiritual beliefs or practices in therapy? Yes, therapy is a space where we can explore all aspects of your life, including your spiritual beliefs or practices if they’re important to you. Whether through guided meditation, exploring spiritual concepts, or incorporating elements like tarot, I’m open to whatever supports your healing journey.
